FCRG member, Prof Amanda Roberts, and her colleague (Dr Kyla Pennington) have successfully secured a Productivity Voucher (approx. £6,000) to work with the local Recovery Coach Community in helping them pilot an innovative new approach to supporting individual and community substance addiction recovery in the UK.
The project will begin at the end of September 2022 and will run for 6 months.
In May 2022, Prof Amanda Roberts was awarded £39,890.84 from NIHR CRN East Midlands fund for under-served communities for a bid with colleagues Jim Rogers and Mark Gussy.
The grant will fund a project entitled ‘Mapping and Understanding Gambling Related-harm In Lincolnshire‘. This will help to inform the development of a larger study with the same populations and communities.
In May 2022, Lauren Smith, along with colleagues Lyndsey Harris and Lauren Hall (School of Social and Political Sciences) were awarded £20,000 by The Probation Service and The Leicestershire Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner.
The funding is being used to develop a model of co-production for women experiencing complex needs.
In March 2022, FCRG members – Lauren Smith and Rachael Mason, along with Karen Harrison (Law) and Lauren Hall, Helen Nichols and Gary Saunders (from Social and Political Sciences) were awarded just over £19,000 from the QR Policy Support Fund for the dissemination of their findings in relation to the well-being of Prison Governors.
The dissemination will include working with external consultants who are experts in policy-related communications and will result in the production of a short video, a range of illustrations relating to the key themes, a briefing report and a collaborative stakeholder event held at the Ministry of Justice.
In March 2022, FCRG members Todd Hogue, Lauren Smith, and Rachael Mason, along Niko Kargas (from the School of Psychology) and Jim Rogers (from the School of Health and Social Care) were awarded just under £60,000 to conduct an Independent Review of Services for Adults with a Learning Disability and Autistic Adults in Midland’s prisons.
In addition to the review, the team will be working with Electric Egg to adopt creative methods to disseminate findings in a suitable and accessible format for prisons.
In Feb 2022, Lauren Smith and Amanda Roberts (along with colleagues from the School of Health and Social Care and a colleague from the School of Architecture) were awarded £10,000 from The Tudor Trust and developmentplus.
The funding will be used to complete a review of potential venues for ongoing delivery of Project Compass, providing support to people who are homeless in Lincoln City.
In Feb 2022, Amanda Roberts, alongside Darren Christensen (University of Lethbridge, Canada ) and Dr Nigel Turner (Centre for Addiction and Mental Health at the University of Toronto), were successful in gaining a $25,000 grant from the Gambling Research Exchange Ontario (GREO).
The funding is being used for the following project “Investigating positive play using OLG player survey data: A secondary analysis”.

Specifically, the research is exploring the impacts of COVID-19 on staff employed in Offender Personality Disorder Services within HMPPS. This is a collaboration, led by Swansea University, with the University of Lincoln, Queens University of Belfast and Her Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS)

berts has been awarded £30,000 from GREO (Gambling Research Exchange Ontario) and the SSA (Society of the Study of Addictions) to organise and host a series of Current Advances in Gambling Research (CAGR) conferences.
The CAGR conferences aim to showcase some of the first-class gambling research being done in the UK, by drawing together academic experts from different areas to discuss the latest data driven advances.
The next conference will be on 19th and 20th May 2022 in Cardiff.
Lauren Smith and Amanda Roberts with Tom George and Jim Rogers from the School of Health and Social Care have been awarded a Productivity Voucher in collaboration with Development Plus. Development Plus are a local voluntary sector organisation who deliver a range of community-based projects.
The Productivity Voucher will be used to conduct a review of Project Compass which provides support to people experiencing entrenched rough sleeping in Lincoln City. The review will be used to inform the future development of the project.
